What is YAP?

Young Ambassadors for Peace is a peace-building initiative, which is voluntary in nature. It has three components: Training, Networking and Movement.

Since YAP was launched in 2001 under the leadership of Joy Balazo, many countries have become engaged in peace workshops beginning in Sri Lanka with Tamil, Muslim and Singhalese; then to Ambon, Indonesia with Muslims and Christians; to Solomon Islands, with Guadalcanal and Malaita people; to the Highlands of PNG with different tribal warring groups; to Bougainville between former Bougainville Revolutionary Army, Resistance group and community people; to the border of Thailand and Burma for the Karens, Burmese, Shan, Chin and other ethnic groups; to North East India with different ethnic groups and to the Philippines in Mindanao with Muslims and Christian groups.

The workshops help people recognize the layers of fear and mistrust that have blocked the communities' capacity to resolve the conflict. The transformation of the person is a key element as people re-discover themselves. The workshops do not impose ‘solutions’ but help communities find their own ways of resolving the conflict.

The results have been the transformation of people and establishing new levels of improved understanding and relationship.  Many thousands have taken part in workshops.

2 Cor 5:20
“So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making His appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
